Description
Medical Biochemistry is a branch of medicine that incorporates Biochemistry and Metabolism in humans. Studying Biochemistry as a narrow specialty is less valuable than integrated learning which places acquired knowledge in a wider context. A Doctor does not learn Biochemistry to gain theoretical brilliance. He / She learns it to be prepared for future developments in clinical practice. Biochemistry plays an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Biochemistry has become increasingly important as targeted molecular therapies play a crucial role in drug designing. Many drugs act by interacting with enzymes (proteins) / nucleic acids. Integration of subjects is an important aspect of CBME (competency based medical education). Integrated teaching enhances student interest and facilitates meaningful learning. This book integrates Biochemistry with Pharmacology and Medicine (vertical integration) and should help students gain deeper understanding of the subject.
